Developing and implementing a community-based strategy to increase awareness of obesity on health utilizing the HBO documentary.

Project Overview

Kaiser Permanente partnered with the producers of the “The Weight of the Nation” documentary to raise awareness about the societal reasons for obesity and its health effects.  The health system needed the services of an agency expert in developing and implementing health awareness strategies at very local levels targeted to diverse communities.

The Solution

Through Cause Communications, I was engaged to provide strategy consultation, account management, and project management for a national community-based public education plan.  The strategy included such tactics as in-person community viewings of the documentary followed by a discussion with local health care providers and community-based organizations that served the most vulnerable populations across the Kaiser Permanente service areas.  Successful implementation of the plan required securing engagement and partnership not only with local CBOs but with Kaiser Permanente regional staff and providers.
